On the 5th of August CWO Mitchell started his Air Cadet Pilot Scheme (ACPS).
" I was overwhelmed that I had been given this opportunity, as I had enjoyed my gliding scholarship in 2013. The course provided the cadets and I luxurious accommodation as well as twelve hours training to fly a light engine aircraft. The length of the course is determined on how quickly the student can get through the twelve hours flying as well as a 50 minute ground exam. On average the cadets take 11 days to complete the course, if however you do not fly solo after the twelve hours you will not receive your award. Those who passed the ground exam as well as being a competent pilot and being able to land the aircraft safety were given the opportunity to go flying on their own. "
"After getting through the intense syllabus , which involved being taught all the controls, checks, take offs ,landings, emergency landings and being able to fly a circuit at 1000 feet. It felt amazing being the first one on my course to go solo. I was told that my instructor would leave the aircraft just before my final checks were completed and I felt sensational knowing I would fly alone. The best part of my solo flight was being able to fulfil my dream of flying. I’ll never forget when the air traffic controller said “Congratulations” once I had landed and vacated the runway."
"Overall I would thoroughly recommend this course to any cadet willing to achieve this great experience. "
