Poppy Selling
A/SGT SELFRIDGE, Sunday 13 January 2008 - 17:54:37 //
I have recently been given the totals of monies collected by the cadets at Poppy Selling in November.
The total was £1116.76. A great effort from all of you.
The total for the whole of the Dunfermline Collection was over 21 thousand pounds, which is up 3 thousand pounds on last year!
So I hope for next year we can try to collect more for this great cause.
Well Done

Bagpacking at Sainsbury's
Bill Turk, Thursday 06 December 2007 - 15:53:06 //
On the 1st of December, 4 cadets from 1145 Dunfermline squadron, went to the sainsbury's in Kirkcaldy to take part in bagpacking, not only was this a squadron thing but it was a wing event, which saw a number of different squadrons in the wing take part. The money that the cadets raised would be going to squadron funds and it would be going to raise money for the corp.
There were another 6 squadrons in the wing that attended, one of the squadrons being,1192 Kirkcaldy squadron.

Once again the cadets from 1145 Dunfermline Sqn rallied to help The Royal British Legion
collect in the High street in Dunfermline on Saturday the 8th of November.
24 cadets attended over the day and although we are still waiting to hear how much we raised I would like to thank all who attended to this very worthwhile cause.
As i was unable to attend I would also like to thank the staff who gave up their day to support the cadets in this event.
Watch this space for the grand total, as soon as I know I will let you all know.

Visit to Police Dog Section
Bill Turk, Wednesday 05 December 2007 - 13:59:32 //
On the 17th of October, 7 cadets went up to RAF Leuchars on a visit to the Police Dog Section. On arrival at RAF Leuchars, we were taken to the food preperation area for the dogs. After seeing that, we were taken outside to meet the dogs whilst they were still in their kennels. One of the dogs (Ben) was taken out of his kennel and his handler showed us him doing some training on the assault course. The dogs are used on the base to deal with any intruders that manage to get by security. We watched as Ben was put through his paces by attacking a pretend (policeman) intruder. To finish the visit off, we all got our pictures taken with Ben before heading back down to Dunfermline. Everybody enjoyed the visit and we would like to thank the Police at RAF Leuchars for their time during the visit.

Lees Trophy Presentation
Bill Turk, Sunday 11 November 2007 - 09:32:45 //
On the 22nd October, members of staff and cadets, past and present, gathered at HMS Scotia drill deck in the presence of Mrs Dean (the Lord Lieutenant of Fife) and Air Commodore Moulds (Air Commandant Air Cadets) for the presentation of the Lees Trophy. The Lees Trophy is awarded to the Squadron judged to be the best in the Air Cadets and this is the second time in its history that 1145 (Dunfermline) Squadron has achieved this.Whilst all at 1145 appreciate that there are Squadrons within the Corps much larger than ours, and there are Squadrons that do far more exciting things than us, Air Commodore Moulds stated that the reason that he chose 1145 as recipients of the trophy was because of the Squadrons "Consistency of Achievement".
As a result of winning the Lees Trophy, the ladder of success for 1145 has grown that much taller. Although we will be out of the running for the trophy until 2010, this is no time for us to rest on our laurels. If anything, we now have to give 110% to everything that we do (not that we didn't before). It is far too easy to fall of the ladder and that is not an option.
Whilst congratulations are in order to all cadets (and members of staff), it now falls to everyone from the newest recruit to the Commanding Officer to ensure that the Squadron continues to achieve. Well done to one and all.

swimming gala 07
Ramp Rat, Sunday 16 September 2007 - 15:47:45 //
Today saw twelve cadets from the squadron taking part in the wing swimming gala at HMS Caledonia.Six male and six female cadets took part in both senior and junior events and all put in 100% effort in their individual events as well as the team relays.
The events led to a respectfull number of gold, silver and bronze medals as well as the Senior Girls overall trophy and the trophy for combined results.
The squadron was also presented with the Bradley trophy.
Hopefully this will spur other cadets on to take part in other events in the future.
The photo shows the successful swimming team after the presentations.

Visit to 111 Squadron
Bill Turk, Sunday 16 September 2007 - 05:31:57 //
Recently, cadets from 1145 (Dunfermline) Squadron were invited to help out with an open day being held by 111 Squadron who are based at Royal Air Force Leuchars. The cadets were put to good use by helping to park cars and organising the selling of raffle tickets. The open day was only for RAF personnel and their families, in the celebration of the Squadrons 90 year anniversary of service in the Royal Air Force.
On display were aircraft that served for the squadron. The SE5 which was the very first aircraft to fly for 111, an F-4 Phantom, two in service Tornado F-3's and a Eurofighter Typhoon which was spcially flown in from Royal Air Force Conningsby. In reward for their efforts, the cadets were allowed to get inside the cockpit of an F-3 Tornado and the Eurofighter Typhoon. Cadets were also speaking to service RAF pilots whichwas a great experience.
In my opinion, it was an extremely enjoyable day and an eye opening experience

Machrihanish first week training
Bill Turk, Sunday 12 August 2007 - 15:40:59 //
Throughout the four week cadet camp at Machrihanish, cadets from 1145 Sqn with the help of SAA Members have been training cadets from many wings on Radio controlled flying. The first week, myself and Cpl Blair Nicol with the aid of Andy Ruddon and Barry Sharp taught the cadets on flying and performing some manouvers for the Bronze award. The week went by without too many crashes or bad landings and the weather was very kind to us. I would like to thank Andy and Barry for giving up their time to help us and thanks to Mr Nicol who gave us the oppurtunity.

Lees Trophy
Bill Turk, Monday 16 July 2007 - 07:28:14 //
The Squadron has just heard, that it has won the Sir Alan Lees Trophy, which is awarded annually to the best Air Training Corps Squadron in the United Kingdom. This is the second time that 1145 Squadron has won the trophy, the first in 1995, whilst in 2006, it won the 'Morris' Trophy, which is awarded to the Squadron that is placed second in the 'Lees' Trophy competition.
The Lees Trophy competition is run in three stages: all Squadrons compete to be judged the best Squadron in their Wing. The winning team then competes to be judged the best Squadron within their Region (Scotland & Northern Ireland for 1145), and the final selection is made by senior officers from Headquarters Air Cadets, based at RAF Cranwell, after a formal parade and inspection, along with a review of all the various 'achievement' and 'Efficiency' marks.
Assessments are made on a number of 'pillars', including:
Achievement - which reflects actual training results, including Corps examinations, successfully completed projects and degree of cadets involvement, courses and camps attended by both cadets and staff, sports and shooting representations, drill results and Duke of Edinburgh Awards obtained and distinguished achievements such as Lord Lieutenant's Cadet and International Air Cadet Exchange selections.
Efficiency - The variety of projects undertaken, imaginative choice of activities in citizenship and the degree of involvement in practical help given to the local community, administration efficiency and the personal appearance, deportment, morale and motivation of staff and cadets.
The cadets, staff and members of the civilian committee are to be applauded on their commitment, determination and enthusiasm, the culmination of which, has brought forth this quite outstanding result and accolade, as being chosen as the 'best of the best'.
The Commandant Air Cadets, Air Commodore Gordon Moulds, will present the 'Lees' Trophy to the Squadron, on a date to be determined in the autumn.
